Loess – The World’s first Climate-Tracked Shopping App
Background
The Fashion Industry is responsible for 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions. LOESS is a carbon emission offsetting app, made for fashion shoppers seeking to minimize their impact on the environment every time they buy a fashion item. It gives shoppers the ability to track their carbon footprint and offset it to zero.
LOESS’s smart technology measures greenhouse gas emissions at every step of the supply chain and empowers shoppers to have a zero-carbon footprint; the more they shop through the app, the more they can help offset greenhouse gas emissions produced in making the items they purchase.
Together with the Loess and Blimey London teams, I worked on the complete application UX and UI.

Research & IA
Together with the Loess team, we performed user research, backed by a long-term opportunity study they performed and technology that was already developed.
We created our target user personas through a set of interviews and focus groups, developed an application flow, and drafted an initial structure of the app that was later validated with over 500 users through testing during the wireframes phase. A set of changes was done following the testing outcome.

Climate-ID System
Each product will have its own Climate-ID that will showcase detailed information about its carbon footprint and sustainability focus areas of the brand, including the complete path of the supply chain with the carbon emissions amount.
Personal Closet and Carbon Footprint Offsetting
The application not only allows to shop but also to track and offset the carbon footprint shoppers leave with the items they purchase. Customers are always able to see their impact, emissions per category, and emissions for the supply chain as well as see how their shopping relates to their sustainability goals.
In-Store Climate-ID Tags
The solution will also offer physical tags that will be available for each item for shoppers to scan in-store. Tags will also showcase items’ carbon footprint and climate impact score directly. Upon scanning, they will land on a special product page that will showcase all the climate impact and product journey information that is available, so the customers can see and track their climate impact.
